Responsibilities

The Research and Development Chef acts as the expert in the innovation and development of recipes, menus, and ingredient selection. This individual improves internal processes and implements “best practices” through the use of technology and business applications. He/she assumes the role as the internal consultant for the Culinary Services subject software.

  • Use expertise to create, develop and test recipes, ingredients, and menus.
  • Develop standardized tools for the Company such as recipes, menus, and order guides for use at the communities by the Directors of Culinary Services (DCSs).
  • Partner with the Senior Vice President of Culinary and Engage Life, as well as the National Dietitian to create and maintain a recipe database that will include nutritional and costing information.      
  • Create and generate reporting tools used to gather data and statistics from the culinary menu, recipe, and purchasing database.
  • Manage the Culinary Services and Engage Life intranet web pages, ensuring that they are kept current and contain accurate documents and information.  
  • Act as the internal consultant for Recipe Management Software. Direct communities in the use of and implementation of the programs as well as in entering and gathering data for such programs.
  • Responsible for training new DCSs and Chefs on the use of the menu and recipe software.
  • Monitor the progress of assigned software providing data on the use and implementation of the programs. Create and generate reports on the progress of assigned programs as needed.
  • May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Culinary education required.
  • Restaurant/Hospitality experience required. Knowledge of how commercial kitchens operate.
  • Two (2) or more years of cooking experience.
  • Experience and expertise in creating and developing recipes, menus, recipe and ingredient testing.
  • Computer savvy; able to quickly learn and become proficient in software programs.
  • Strong communication skills; excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Must have or be willing to get a COVID-19 vaccine, subject to legal requirements.
