Responsibilities

The Tax Manager is responsible for providing management level support for certain tax department functions.  This individual is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the US sales and use and Canadian VAT tax compliance functions, performing due diligence activities with respect to community acquisitions and dispositions, and all US sales and use and Canadian VAT tax audits.  Other responsibilities include identifying and implementing US sales and use and Canadian VAT tax planning strategies, providing technical support to department and Company-wide staff and assisting with general and administrative department matters.

  • Oversee the US sales and use and Canadian VAT tax compliance process including the preparation and review of all tax returns, preparation of applicable quarterly estimates, maintenance of the tax calendar and resolution of related tax notices.
  • Research and analyze complex US sales and use and Canadian VAT tax issues and work with consultants in resolving issues and documenting findings to support filing positions.
  • Manage, train, coach and develop team members.
  • Research and analyze the need to participate in tax amnesty or voluntary disclosure programs and oversee the preparation of necessary documents.
  • Oversee all US sales and use and Canadian VAT tax audits including analyzing proposed audit adjustments, assisting in the resolution and negotiation of tax issues identified and preparing/reviewing applicable protest documents.
  • Provide technical support to the Tax Department staff, the communities and other departments within the Company.
  • Identify tax issues, planning opportunities, process improvements and provide direction in the resolution and implementation of such projects.
  • Assist with other special projects and due diligence efforts in connection with Company transactions.
  • May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Accounting.
  • CPA highly preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of indirect tax experience. Experience with a “Big 4” or regional public accounting firm is preferred. 
  • Proven ability in managing processes, team members and consultants to timely meet specified filing and other internal deadlines.
  • Proven ability to analyze and research complex tax issues, document tax filing positions, and identify and implement tax planning strategies.
  • Strong technical, analytical, detail orientation, supervisory and communication skills.
  • Proficient in utilizing computer technology in the performance of tax assignments.  Computer / PC skills to include proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.), tax compliance and research software.
