When it comes to caring for the residents at Atria El Camino Gardens, very little can stand in Cathyren Cole’s way. As Resident Services Supervisor, she brings determination and heart to everything she does.
For example, when a medication shortage and healthcare strikes delayed a resident’s prescription, Cathyren jumped into action – on her day off. She visited a dozen pharmacies, coordinated with the resident’s son and the insurance company, and stayed with the situation for more than 10 hours until the prescription was successfully filled at a pharmacy that had the medication in stock. This is just one example of the dedication and compassion she brings to her work, no matter the day or hour.
Her exceptional commitment to senior care was recently recognized with the Excellence in Service Award from the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) – a testament to her profound impact on both residents and colleagues.
From Caregiver to Community Leader
Cathyren’s journey with Atria began as a caregiver, a role that reflected her passion for serving older adults. A drive to enhance the lives of seniors led her to become a medication technician and, eventually, to pursue a nursing degree – all while working full-time.
Today, as a licensed vocational nurse, she has assumed the responsibilities of Resident Services Supervisor, managing the care department in a community that serves up to 250 residents.
Her colleagues affectionately call her “Cat,” a nickname that reflects the warmth and approachability she brings to her role. Known for her “heart of gold,” Cathyren routinely goes above and beyond. She often covers shifts for other caregivers and medication technicians, ensuring that residents receive uninterrupted, high-quality care.
Driving Results
Cathyren’s empathetic approach has earned the deep trust of residents, particularly in situations requiring medical intervention. Her ability to communicate with compassion and preserve dignity has helped many residents accept necessary care, often preventing more serious health issues down the line.
Under her leadership, the care department earned a 95% score on an internal audit encompassing 50 quality indicators, helping Atria El Camino Gardens advance toward Atria’s prestigious Quality Enhancement Award.
Lifting Others Up
Beyond her administrative responsibilities, Cathyren invests in people. She organizes training sessions, educational seminars and support meetings for families. Her daily positivity and team-building activities help create a nurturing environment where every person – resident, family member or coworker – feels seen, supported and empowered.
In Cathyren Cole, Atria El Camino Gardens has more than a supervisor. They have a servant-leader whose humility, strength and unwavering dedication transform lives. Her CALA recognition reflects of the lasting difference she makes every day.
