For Kryselle Tolentino, Engage Life Program Instructor at Atria Willow Glen, connecting with residents isn’t just part of her job – it’s what she loves most.
That passion was recognized in a big way when she received Atria’s Exceptional Service Award, our highest honor for team members who go above and beyond.
“I was speechless,” Kryselle says. “I just kept saying, ‘Thank you for seeing me.’ Because this is who I really am – the energy, the joy for the work. It fills my heart to be recognized in this way.”
Creating opportunities for growth
Before joining Atria, Kryselle worked as a nurse, caring for memory care residents. She later sought a role where she could engage seniors in a different way – by inspiring independence, connection and creativity.
“Every person is like a book waiting to be read,” she says. “Some people just need a little encouragement to open up.”
That encouragement made all the difference for Bernice, a resident recovering from an injury who was hesitant to join activities. Kryselle gently invited her to try new programs, whether it was drumming, aqua fitness or social events. Over time, Bernice’s confidence grew. She became more engaged, improved her mobility and even started assisting in classes – helping her neighbors feel more comfortable getting involved.
Energizing the community
“Kryselle’s energy is contagious,” says Jill Knickerbocker, Engage Life Director at Atria Willow Glen. “She walks through the doors singing a favorite song, and suddenly, everyone is smiling.”
Kryselle’s creativity and adaptability shine through in everything she does. When an entertainer cancels last minute, she turns it into a fun-filled karaoke session. When a resident struggles with technology, she’s there with patience and solutions. Whether leading a cardio drumming class or helping residents cultivate a thriving succulent garden, Kryselle makes every experience engaging.
Making every moment meaningful
For Kryselle, senior living is about more than just activities – it’s about creating moments that matter. She encourages residents to try new things, discover new talents and build meaningful connections.
“Everything I do, I put my heart and soul into,” she says.
And in return, she’s found a career filled with purpose, surrounded by a community that thrives because of her dedication.
The heart of a vibrant community
Great senior living isn’t just about amenities – it’s about the people who bring the community to life. Whether through shared laughter, newfound confidence or small moments of connection, team members like Kryselle make all the difference.
